Set to release her new album, “Willoughby Tucker, I’ll Always Love You” this August, ETHEL CAIN is embarking on an extensive tour across North America and Europe this summer. Expected to perform her signature hits, fan favorites, and new music, get ready for dark, heavy, and mysterious nights as these life tales find their way back to the stage. Taking you back to her younger days, the album focuses on a turning point in her life, right before “Preacher’s Daughter” took place.
She’s the soul behind the critically acclaimed record “Preacher’s Daughter.” Hailing from Tallahassee, Florida and raised in Perry, Ethel grew up in a Southern Baptist family and sang for a church choir back in her childhood. Hayden Silas Anhedönia started making music in 2017 and stuck with the “Ethel Cain” moniker in 2019. She was inspired by the biblical figure while thinking of a “womanly, matronly, old American name.”
The singer came out as gay to her family when she was 12, and later shared with the public that she is a trans woman on her 20th birthday. “It was made clear to everyone that I was not like other people,” she shared with W Magazine. “Whenever I started to develop, I started to come into my own as a trans woman. We were a house divided—it was me versus my whole town.”
Coming into terms with who she is, Ethel pours her heart in every song she writes. Telling tales of trauma, struggle, and liberation, these records bring to light her deep-rooted emotions that unravel turning points in her life. As ‘the preacher’s daughter’ takes a look back at her relationship with Willoughby Tucker and her friend Janie, we’re all set to hear new stories, emotions, and life-changing events that made her who she is today.
The new album serves as a prequel to her 2022 release which was hailed by critics as one of the best albums of the year. The record follows her life as a teenage girl juggling her religious upbringing, a lover, and traumatic events. With intricate lyrics and transcendental vocals, it captured everyone’s hearts and drew souls in.
Maddi Harding of The Bubble shared that the album is “an immensely emotional and spiritual experience, which I implore everyone to hear for themselves.”
